We were actually looking for Nebula Stone at the end of the day when we found a beautiful unusual chocolate and vanilla colored stone with an amazing assortment of sizes and shapes of orbs (orbicules/spherulites) of fine detail. Over the years we have found very, very few.
They were very visible, when we did find them...at the end of the day. It was the eyes that would catch our attention. They seemed to catch even the smallest amount of light. We found them usually at sunset where they stood out amongst all the hundreds of other stones, where they glowed with what could be described as a soft moon glow. Whenever we did find one it was like, as we mentioned on our Palm Stone page, when we would find a nice Nebula Palm Stone, we would run to one another holding the gift in our hand behind our back and then tell the other one to close their eyes and hold out their hand. Then we would put the stone in the others hand and then open our eyes and see the surprise right before us, "Wow" was the most immediate word that first came out.
Well, finally we decided to do our web site and get some photos up on the screen. We found so few that we have not analyzed them and do not know what their mineralogical content might be. Nor do we know how they originated. Our guess would be that they are of igneous origin, as is Nebula Stone.
We only know that we found few and they are each eye catching and unique.
One collector said she found herself drooling at the Chocolate Galaxy photos we sent her. She described them as Geologic Pin-ups.
Some close-up photos were taken at macro to show the intricate fine detail as may be seen with a hand held magnifier or jewelers loupe.
